Hermes

Hermes

The Community Guardian

Hermes is the patron of music, art, and various forms of prophecy.  He is often seen as a shepherd guarding his flock.

As a Hermes, you are a natural healer and community supporter.  You are a man of many talents: intellectually astute, quick-witted, and often quite generous.  Because of your strong character, you are capable of overcoming almost any obstacle you encounter at work or at home. While you like to keep your private life private, the intensity of your personality often shows through your penetrating eyes.  You can excel in the medical arts, community services, law-and-order professions, and in other life-sustaining enterprises, such as real estate, insurance, and the military. You have a knack for managing finances, securing your family, and leading a comfortable self-fulfilling existence.

Strengths

  • Above-average intellectual capabilities
  • Natural inclination toward healing arts
  • A generous and considerate nature
  • Conscious of community needs
  • Capability to provide for others
  • A tenacious drive to achieve
  • Sound financial judgment
  • A humanitarian guardian

Weaknesses

  • Low self-esteem
  • Easily discouraged
  • Excessive need for reward
  • Frailty in health after age 40
  • Resentful and critical of others
  • A tendency to become a recluse
  • Insecurities and survival neuroses

You can be insensitive, due to the protective shield you developed to defend yourself against an overbearing personality in early childhood, or from undue authoritative demands placed upon you as a youth.  You learned how to control your sensitivity to keep the world, especially your parents, from seeing how vulnerable you felt.  Because you hide your sensitive nature, however, you tend to overlook the feelings of others, realizing only too late when you have deeply hurt them.

Your tendency to hide from your emotions can have a negative effect on your body, particularly after middle age.  It can create an imbalance in your thyroid system, interfering with your metabolism and your ability to rejuvenate yourself.  Uncorrected, this stress-induced imbalance can speed up your aging and affect your blood pressure, nervous system, and physical agility.  Refusing to acknowledge your emotional needs can even shorten your life, particularly if you use alcohol as a pacifier.  Watch for the early warning signs of trouble ahead: chronic sinus headaches, tension in your neck, excessive desire for self-gratification, or waning sexual potency.

Meeting Your Creative Wellness Challenge

You need to watch what you consume.  Chemicals and additives are especially harmful to you, since they interfere with proper liver performance.  Therefore, be sure that you know your nutritional needs and stay on a good balanced diet.  To make the most of your Hermes personality, you can

  • get lots of healthy out-of-doors exercise
  • pursue mental studies for self-advancement
  • give yourself plenty of rest, relaxation, and play
  • collect rocks, save the whales, or take short trips
  • use natural supports to protect your sensitive emotional system
  • engage in activities that require both mind and body to build your self-confidence

More than any other Profiles, you possess a talent for personal transformation, and you will share your learned experience with others, to aid those in need.

Hermes’s Affirmation

I acknowledge that in the past I have over-emphasized my needs for security and reward.

In understanding my inner motivation, I pledge to change myself
and become an integrated person – body, mind, and spirit as one.

I forgive myself and others for not recognizing my worth,
and secure my future in health and love, and my pursuit of happiness
